  1.                             Skin Cancer
  2. SYMPTOMS. Signs for a non-spreading type of cancer called BASAL CELL
  3. CARCINOMA begins as a solid elevation or a small, pale papule. It is usually
  4. on exposed skin. It slowly enlarges and a central ulcer is shown. Signs for
  5. a spreading type of cancer called SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA first appears as a
  6. small reddish patch or papule. After months or years it starts to grow into
  7. a crusted ulcer with hard edges. It may then spread quickly on the skin and
  8. to the nose, mouth or vulva. See also MALIGNANT MELANOMA.
  9. CAUSES are unknown at this time but it may be related to x-ray, beryllium,
  10. excessive sunlight exposure, coal tar, nickle and arsenic. Persons with
  11. light skin are most susceptible.
